About the Author Bobbie

Bobbie is an Australian Certified Pastry Chef. She's a graduate of The Australian Patisserie Academy, The Northern Sydney Institute, and took Hospitality Management Major in Entrepreneurship from Sydney School of Entrepreneurship. She's a Certified Foodie and Food Technologist, she's also a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Food Technology in the Philippines. Bobbie travels back and forth from Manila to Sydney to practice her career, but is currently based in Manila to pursue her passion in Food Styling and Photography. She became a Mental Health Awareness Advocate after being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder 2 with General Anxiety Disorder back in Australia. Also an Ocean Conservation Advocate, she's an active ambassador of Friends of the Ocean Society. Bobbie is also a food and travel writer and photographer for various travel magazines and travel websites. She's a self-proclaimed Mermaid, a K-Drama Fan, and a "Platita" of Manila (LOVES HOARDING PLATES, MUGS, AND TEA SETS).

The past weeks have been hectic. When you're just The past weeks have been hectic. When you're just too busy with daily happenings... work, client calls, deadlines, time flies by really fast! I was sitting in my office the other day and was staring at the scheduled shoots for the month. In a blink of an eye, it's already mid-March! Lemme say that again. MID-MARCH. It's almost April! What happened? I was just saying hello to the beginning of another month yesterday, and here I was already closing the booking lines for March. Whew! That came down really fast! 😮I badly needed a reset, a time away from my desk and the studio. So after 4 sleepless nights, I went to attend my godson's birthday party at Kidzoona (wow! just saying godson makes me feel old).I got the chance to play with the kids and become everyone's eldest big baby daughter. When the kids play, I don't just stand there and watch them. I play too. I would always probably be the playful ninang who will swim with them, ride a rollercoaster with them, wear mermaid tails, glitters, and fun costumes. I had myself standing in the middle of a giant bubble. When they slide, I slide. When they jump, I jump. And when they throw themselves in a ball pit, I do that too! I enjoyed myself just as the kids did for that day, but my aching body tells me that I am an ageing adult! Too much fun is painful on the back and hips. Plus, my social battery just got drained. 😂I want a massage. I want a whole week of rest. And yes, you deserve to rest too! If you're burnt out and struggling, you don't need more productivity. Take breaks, relax, and play! We weren't born to just pay bills and die! Go out and have fun! Enjoy your days. Find a healthy balance between work and play and see for yourself how it does wonders. Super pretty Blue's Clues Themed cake for Dylan's Super pretty Blue's Clues Themed cake for Dylan's 3rd Birthday. I'm super proud because by mentor made this cake. 💜I learned how to make fondant cakes and cake artistry by attending classes by Chef Aggy. I used to wake up really early and drive for about an hour to attend the classes at Heny Sison Culinary School. I was really pumped to learn and took every session seriously. The short-courses would start around 8 in the morning (can't believe I was an early riser back then) and finish at around 4 to 5 in the afternoon (or until everyone in the class are done making fondant and decorating our cakes). It was practically a whole day affair. This was before I took a professional course in Patisserie. (More about my pastry journey in my IG stories).One out of the many things I've learned in making fondant cakes is strong attention to details. I was detail-oriented my whole life as a pastry chef and I got it from making fondant cakes. Cake Artistry was actually the beginning of my pastry career and I am extremely grateful to my mentors for teaching us the essentials which I carried until I pursued my pastry career in Australia. 😍Looking at this cake took me back to that moment when I was still beginning. Good old days. 💜I guess once a pastry chef, always a pastry chef (although I think my baking and cake artistry has gone rusty). I always tell my friends who are trying to order cakes that I have retired as a chef as I am now in the Food Styling and Food Photography industry. I always pass by @fillingstationbarcafe along Burg I always pass by @fillingstationbarcafe along Burgos, Makati Avenue, but I never got the chance to have a look at it inside. I have always been so curious, especially at night time when all the lights are lit. It always looks inviting from the outside. So one weeknight, we decided to drive by and have dinner there and boy, it was a place full of good vibes!The ambiance is a perfect 10, every corner is just so captivating. The place was carefully curated with vintage decors, each detail was a blast from the past! We ordered some comfort food like Eggs Benedicts and Waffles, Pizza, BBQ Ribs, and milkshakes. The servings were huge! Food was awesome, just sitting there and looking around was an experience itself.We came back a few weeks after with different company. We were welcomed by cheerful staff and the service was just as excellent as our first visit.
