I was grocery shopping with my Mom at Cherry, Shaw Blvd. in Mandaluyong when I noticed this exceptionally lit restaurant at one corner. I was not a fan of hotpots before, to be honest. I mean, I would eat hotpot… but it isn’t exactly my favorite. UNTIL I TRIED TONG YANG EXPRESS.

I’m on a low-fat diet, so OK. Let’s give this a try. The restaurant facade is welcoming. It looks small from the outside, but it has the capacity of about 60-70 pax and that’s not a bad size for an instant hotpot restaurant. What makes it “express” if you might ask?

Unlike other Tong Yang Grill and Shabu-Shabu Restaurants where you have to get your ingredients to cook from the buffet, Tong Yang Express gives you 10 choices from the menu. Wagyu Beef, Pork, Chicken, Ultimate Seafood, Vegetarian, Dumplings, Beef and Seafood, Pork and Seafood, Chicken and Seafood, and the ingredients for these are already set. You don’t need to go through the hassle of a buffet to get what you need. You can choose from a wide variation of soup bases as well.

Another interesting thing about Tong Yang Express is their add-ons. You can choose from an array of vegetables, meats, dumplings, noodles, and balls for just P1 per gram. Not bad, yeah? But don’t be fooled easily, because a plate of dumplings costed me about P450. LOL. Is it just me? Or dumplings are just too heavy? Hahaha

Anyway, if you are someone like me, who’s very extra on sauces, you will definitely enjoy Tong Yang Express. They have Ponzu Sauce, Peanut Sauce, Spicy Salted Egg Sauce, Chilies, and more.

I tried Vegetarian on Chicken Soup Base and Beef Shabu Shabu on Sinigang Soup Base (and I tried replicating this at home too for the love of hotpot now. This one is for another separate post), and mind you… I enjoyed every part of my hotpot experiences.

Visit Tong Yang Express at LGF, Cherry Supermarket, Shaw Blvd., Mandaluyong City for your quick Shabu-Shabu fix.
