I’ve heard a lot of pastries being made out of ube, coconut, durian, and similar tropical fruits and crops, but this is my first encounter with pastries made out of dragon fruit! Yup! That pink fruit you see in the supermarkets that looks weirdly exotic.

Dragon fruit is not entirely exotic. It is in fact a tropical fruit that grows abundantly in Mexico and Central America. It is also common in tropical countries like Thailand and the Philippines and it has a lot of amazing health benefits. The taste is a cross between a kiwi and a pear, but it is sweeter when it gets ripe.

The peak of the harvest season for dragon fruit is between July to October, but in recent years, a lot of farmers have started farming the fruit locally, as it is said to be a “money crop”, selling in the local markets and produce at P150-P200 ($4-6 AUD) per kilo. Production of this fruit is mostly in Bukidnon, Ilocos Region, Cavite, or Davao, and for the past few years, there has been an increase in the dragon fruit propagation in the Philippines alone.

Premium Cuisines and Goodies Pastries

While a lot of bakers and online sellers focus on the typical ingredients to incorporate on their baked goods (bananas, chocolates, ube, cheese, nuts), Premium Cuisines and Goodies take their pastries to another level by utilizing Dragon Fruit on all of their products. They call it “The Pink Bread” as the color comes naturally from the fruit.

PINK LOAF

Premium Cuisines and Goodies makes superb quality loaf bread made out of dragon fruit. You can actually see the black seeds that comes right out of the fruit itself. For P150 ($4 AUD), you get one whole loaf freshly baked and delivered right at your doorstep.

ICE BOX DRAGON FRUIT CHEESECAKES

These are no-bake Dragon Fruit Cheesecakes, available in different sizes of acrylic boxes. They have it in round, squares, big and small rectangles, just perfect for a holiday giveaway.

BAKED DRAGON FRUIT CHEESECAKE

Premium Cuisines and Goodies also have baked Dragon Fruit Cheesecake, a new twist on your usual cheesecake flavor. You get to have topnotch quality at P600 ($17 AUD) for 9″ whole round cheesecake. Their take on the Dragon Fruit Cheesecake is very interesting, as it is not too sweet and the cheesecake base is not too heavy.

KOREAN CHEESE AND GARLIC BUNS

This is my new found favorite, Korean Cheese and Garlic Bread Buns in four different flavors (Cheddar, Cream Cheese, Mozarella, and Nutella). Korean Buns are trending in the foodie world, and so Premium Cuisines and Goodies have taken theirs into a whole new level. Buns are made out of the Dragon Fruit, thus the pretty pink color. Each flavor is P150 ($4 AUD) for every Box of 4, but you can also have them assorted for the same price. Nice deal, right?

The buns are not as salty and oily as the other buns I have tried. You will surely grab another one, and another one, and another one, once you try them.

They have a number of dragon fruit goodies on the menu, not just the pastries and breads which I have stated above. They also have Piaya, Dragon Fruit Pandesal, and Bunwich in 2 flavors (Tuna or Ham).
